424 Export Gin marries traditional sweet potato shochu with botanicals from Kagoshima Prefecture’s Osumi Peninsula in a wooden pot still. In addition to the classic botanicals of juniper, orris root, angelica root, and coriander, locally grown cucumbers, shiitake mushrooms, ginger root, green tea, and shiso leaves add to the local personality of this gin.  The underlying character springs from Wakashio’s small cedar pot still. Bound with braided bamboo rather than metal hoops, the still was made by a seasoned craftsman. He visits Wakashio regularly for maintenance, but he does not have an apprentice.
